Govt to act against mass organizations given to violence

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is reported to have said that the government would impose sanctions on mass orgnizations that use violence to reach their goals, including the FPI (Islam Defenders Front) and FBR (Betawi Brotherhood Forum).

Sonny T Danaparamita, secretary general of the Indonesian National Students Movement (GMNI), said here Tuesday the President had disclosed the government`s intention when receiving a GMNI delegation at his office earlier in the day,

At the meeting the President expressed the government`s determination to act against any party found conducting anarchic actions.

Presidential spokesman Anda Malarangeng however denied that the President had mentioned the names of certain organizations during the meeting with the GMNI delegation.

"The President did not mentioned any names. The President normatively only conveyed the government`s determination to act according to the law against anyone or any group who take the law into their own hands and conduct anarchic actions," he told ANTARA.

Sonny said the President would use existing rules to act against anarchic organizations.

"He will put everything in order and has ordered the concerned ministers in the cabinet to do their parts," he said.

The GMNI delegationl called on the President to report their plan to hold a unity congress in Pangkal Pinang on June 26-30.(*)
